Hello families,

We want more students to cycle to school and we want them to have the skills, confidence and experience to ride safely.

To prepare our students to ride, as part of the Active School Travel (AST) program, Brisbane City Council is offering Year 4 students a FREE 60-minute bike skills training program with a professional cycling coach.

Bike skills training provides children with invaluable riding skills and lays the foundation for independent travel choices and fun family rides. The session will be held at school, in school time on Friday 17 June and students need to bring their own bike and helmet.

Students will learn all the essentials including:

· Safety check, including helmet, tyres, bell and brakes

· Bike control, environment scanning, signalling and riding manoeuvres

· Safely crossing intersections and the road (footpath to footpath)

· Queensland road rules and footpath etiquette

To participate, students should already know how to ride a bike. This is not a learn to ride program, but rather a comprehensive bike skills session focusing on safety. Registration will be via this Eventbrite link and will close on Wednesday 8 June

Bike skills training is fully funded by Brisbane City Council's Active School Travel Program and places are limited. Be quick to secure your place!

Thank you
